Alexandria, VA – January 18, 2023 – The Innovation and Value Initiative (IVI), a non-profit research organization committed to advancing research that focuses on the patient experience. In line with their mission, IVI has created a Value Blueprint to identify common themes, key perspectives and feedback on the working equity framework as part of their Health Equity Initiative (HEI).

“IVI is proud to join other thought leaders in identifying and activating real change to promote and uphold health equity,” says Jennifer Bright, Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer at IVI. “As this brief demonstrates, there is strong consensus that we cannot measure value without equity.”

As part of their research for the HEI Value Blueprint, IVI interviewed a wide range of key stakeholders. These conversations, among other priorities, illustrated the need for change in power imbalances regarding design and decision-making to give equal leadership to those marginalized in research and care deliver, including patients, families and communities.

“In the health technology assessment field, action must occur to ensure representativeness in all processes and data, test methods that include equity in analyses, and uphold transparency,” Bright explains. “Doing the hard work in all of these areas is foundational to patient-centered, equitable decision-making.”

IVI’s HEI Value Blueprint reinforces their work to date and the need to impart change within health technology assessment to shrink the increasing disparities in the U.S. healthcare system. IVI’s Health Equity Initiative strengthens their commitment to ally with all stakeholders seeking to improve how healthcare in the U.S. is defined, measured, and represented, and the Value Blueprint will serve as a guide for IVI’s research and collaborations to advance health equity.
